Southbury Garden Club

Organized in 1959, the objectives of the Club are to promote interest in Horticulture and increase knowledge of the artistic use of plant material to further the education and conservation of natural resources and to maintain the Club’s established Community Gardens to enhance the beautification of Southbury. The Club operates on a non-profit basis.

About Us:
We are an active organization in the Southbury Community. Our members volunteer for the Civic and Conservation Projects to establish and maintain beautiful gardens in Southbury. We hold free programs for the community 7-8 times per year at the Southbury Library. (See a list of our Calendar events) Through the Civic Committee, we donate fresh vegetables to the Food Bank from our Summer Community Garden and in December we supply fresh wreaths for the Southbury Town Buildings. Once a year, we present Appreciation Awards to local businesses in order to say thank you for their landscaping efforts.

In conjunction with the Southbury Library, we hold youth programs to teach floral skills to ages 8-15. They are usually held for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween and in December at Holiday time.

Under our Healing, Therapy and Senior Gardening Committee, members demonstrate floral arranging to residents in Assisted Living Facilities. Also under the committee, members donate gift baskets in May and December to Safe Haven, a shelter for victims of domestic and / or physical violence.

The Federated Garden Clubs of Ct. sponsors the Ct Flower Show held every year in February at the Convention Center in Hartford. Our members attend and some have participated in floral design competition and have won several swards – including Best in Show!

In 2024 we started collaborating with the Southbury Land Trust and Sustainable Southbury to provide special projects for Southbury.
