We Have Two Categories of Donations
2. Permanent Home & Endowment
National Garden Clubs' ability to achieve new standards of excellence depends upon the generosity of caring people like you. Planned gifts help maximize the tax benefits of your charitable giving while providing a sustainable gift to continue the work of our organization.
National Garden Clubs, Inc. sponsors many special projects that impact both U.S. and International communities. Each of these projects is intended to make a positive impact on the community and provide a way for members to get involved, make a contribution of their time and talents, participate, network and support our organization. These projects are a core part of what we do, and we need your support to keep them growing! Here is a sampling of some of the projects we sponsor:
NGC's outreach programs include: Habitat for Humanity Landscaping, Grants for Disaster Relief and a Global Partners Running Waters initiative to help provide clean water where needed. For example, the disaster grant program will fund efforts by local garden clubs to replant, restore and beautify public areas that have been damaged by such events as earthquakes, floods and storms.
The Penny Pines program, a partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, raises funds to replant damaged state and national forests coast-to-coast. Each $68.00 donation covers the cost of replanting replacement and/or trees indigenous (not just pine trees) to a particular damaged area, whether by fire or other natural catastrophe.
Send A Greeting Electronically and Recognize Our Servicemen's Every Sacrifice
The Sage and Roses program encourages members to send friends an email holiday greeting. The money that would have been spent on the cost of the cards and stamps is donated to erect a Blue Star Memorial Marker in one of the states.
NGC is proud of its college scholarship program which offers financial aid to students majoring in fields of study related to horticulture and the environment. Applicant must be planning a career related to gardening, landscape design, environmental issues, floral design or horticulture. Thirty-five (35) advanced annual scholarships were awarded in 2011 for the academic year of 2011-2012, each in the amount of $3,500.00.
School gardening programs are popular nationwide. Another project is a cooperative effort with scouting organizations to promote the use of native plants while teaching gardening basics. To earn a National Garden Clubs Girl Scout Native Plants Badge, scouts study the native plants in their home areas and establish native beauty spots in their communities. Youth poetry, essay and art contests include a sculpture competition using recyclable materials and the Smokey Bear / Woodsy Owl poster contest, sponsored in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service.
